The promise THE PROMISE not just a bedtime story little children, the Promise is a life lesson. It is not just a love story like Romeo and Juliet is the story of a couple who apart from being friends to lovers are companions of a lifetime. At the beginning of the twentieth century in a town of Miranda do Corvo, Lamas (Portugal) there was two girls who besides being companions, were very friendly. Lucinda was known as the Brazilian becouse she´s lived there many years. Graça was known by the nickname "the morgue", treated her well because her father, José de Paiva Manso Sárria de Carvalho, was one of the most influential people of the region and carrying the title of Knight of the Archduke to his majesty, title who has lost a little before fleeing to Brazil. Lucinda and Graça were married and had children, among them José was born (April 12, 1914) and Maria da Graça (23 July 1914) Lucinda with only three months apart from each other. Graça can not to breast-feed her child, but her friend could and offered to feed the man who would become his son. Maria was talented, loved cooking, sewing, had a pure taste up to the time, but yet it was very carefully in their tastes, from the little I could do much. But yet it was a little cold in their feelings. Joseph was a self-taught, loved the arts, since a good literature up to good music, such as Carlos do Carmo to sing "The kids," or classical music, he loved hunting and fishing and had an exquisite black humor. On the day his father left, José had promised himself he would never give up on anything or anyone in life, to take care of all those he loved, believed and above all those in need of help. It was a promise too heavy for a child only 14 years old, and young Joseph had a gift that could not refuse the gift of helping others. He was a hero and was to end. Both enrolled in primary education, the banks of primary school, and it was here that José and Maria started dating, against the popular opinion. As a teenager Maria is engaged to a cousin of his father in Brazil, but Maria simply ignored the wishes of his father there last time you planted left waiting on the quay of Lisbon. At 14, José finds himself there before the first challenge, the flight of his father to Brazil, and get the first responsibility of caring for the support his family. Mother and four siblings, Maria, who was the eldest of five children, Zezita, Carlos and António (order of age) were the youngest. The December 27, 1936 José and Maria get married in the church of Lamas. After marrying, they moved to the city of Coimbra where the first born son, on 5 November 1938 and was named after the famous statue, Óscar. The 1939 starts in what has come to be one of the greatest disasters in human history, the Third Reich. War has affected the participating countries but also countries in the neutral countries. The stock of food became scarce, and the option of each family obtain passwords to food at doses depending on the number of foods from each family. The 1945 war ends with the consequences after the war lasted until the mid-'50 / 60. Four years later comes the second child, Rui Fernando, doomed from the first day of his life, died in the past nine months with meningitis. It was a tough blow to the young couple, who with 27 years saw your baby to suffer and die. For years the fear of having a child was great. At the end of World War II the family moved to Miranda do Corvo. On 9 November 1946, José along with his friend Fausto White co-founded the Volunteer Fire in Miranda do Corvo, where José was second in command in the first term of cooperation, and commander of the second term. On 9 February 1947, was born in Miranda do Corvo new hope, a little girl named Clara, a rebel who made life difficult for parents to their sponsors. Year later with some friends founded a football club in the same location, the "Mirandense". José gets a position of a collaborative store in Lisbon, in 1955, the family have moved once to the capital. My way back then said that Miranda do Corvo has given what he had to give, which would never be in a provincial town. It falls into the Zoófila, where he becomes the No. 4, sir. In 1963, the Parkinsonism is diagnosed José disease affects the central nervous system, particularly affects people very nervous and people with excessive concern, as Joseph once again both of them were meditating on a battlefield like tops of chess. It was a great fight lasted almost twenty years, their children do not know if they would have more pity of his father who was sick or his mother who was watching her husband to languish on a bed. José dos Santos died with those you loved, the family, without honors, and awards to 30 June 1979. Had a last wish was to be achieved, a granddaughter. He had four young grandchildren, two of each child, but had a granddaughter wanted. On 17 February 1983, the granddaughter was born so that Joseph never got to know the daughter of Clara and Carlos. The granddaughter was me, I am the granddaughter that my grandmother wanted me and no one wanted to say until I stress the reason for so much secrecy about one of my grandmother. My grandmother, who always took care of me, I had never told anything. When I became a firefighter in the cooperation that helped to found, in the end my family surrendered and decided to tell. He is my hero, and those are the values that I want to continue, this is my heritage. I want to continue the work of my grandfather, and on top of me and him share the same passion, the arts. The passion for the world and all its members because I am a citizen of the world, and go to where I keep that in mind. The world can be extremely violent and often cruel, but we must try, even if there are people who try to cut the wings. Today my grandmother is 95 years old and is in a home in Miranda do Corvo, and so has often recognizes the family, due to arteriosclerosis.
